Counselling Services

At Helping Heads Counselling, we understand the importance of mental health and well-being. We are here to provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals seeking guidance and support.

Below is a list of topics that we can work with, however, nothing is off limits and you will be offered support with anything you need help with, whether that be with myself or if you are provided with details to other specialised services.

I feel it is important here to highlight that I have worked with or have had personal experience of all of the points listed below. I truly can empathise with your struggles, concerns and worries and we can work together to get you where you want to be.

Neuro-diversity

I offer counselling for individuals,  parents, caregivers or children who have received or potentially awaiting a diagnosis of Autism, ADHD or Autism Spectrum Condition and the worries, concerns and thoughts that stem from this. I have a personal understanding of how these differences can affect everyone's life and can use person-centred theory to work through these concerns.

Anxiety, Depression and Stress

Anxiety and depression are two of the most common forms of mental health concerns that can create stressful, physical, mental and emotional responses. These can be life altering and feel impossible to manage. I work alongside you to find achievable techniques to help combat these unwanted feelings and to build up resilience for your future self when/if these feelings present themselves again.

Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

I have knowledge and experience of working with people who have experienced trauma and PTSD. Experiencing traumatic experiences can mean you are triggered by many things in life including smells, noise, touch, sights which can force us into the traumatic memory and reliving it like it is happening here and now. We will address and work through this safely and bring power back into your hands in a safe and collaborative manner.

Self-esteem  & Confidence

There can be times in life where we struggle to have confidence in the decisions we make, or to have any positive feelings of ourselves. This can present especially during feelings of low mood, any life changes or when re-living past life experiences. During this time it can mean our boundaries slip, we start to people please and have difficulty saying no without guilt or negative feelings. Together we can work on self-compassion, contentment, acceptance and confidence using different ideas and strategies that is comfortable for you. These can be finding out your personal values, looking at passive and aggressive behaviours, and building confidence to communicate in a firm, calm and clear way.

Bereavement & Loss

Throughout our life we will all experience bereavement and loss that can make us want/need to grieve endings. This can be the end of relationships, the loss of a loved one, the loss of a cherished pet,  ending's of a career and who you are as a person. I provide sessions that sensitively approaches the loss and provide the space to find meaning in life whilst still remembering those who were with us before and how we can continue to incorporate our past into our future.

Men's Mental Health

Men having mental health struggles is still a huge barrier that is faced in todays society with expectations being placed on men that they should be strong and silent. This expectation is rooted in toxic masculinity and has resulted in poor mental health outcomes for many years. I have vast experience of working with male clients of all ages and aim to build a therapeutic relationship that takes the above into consideration when working through any concerns or problems in your life, in a non-judgemental way.

Relationships

In our lives we enter into many different relationships and play different roles within them. We are someone's child, a sibling, a parent, a spouse, a friend, a fling, a soulmate etcetera. From each of these relationships come different expectations and how to navigate them can leave feelings of confusion, sadness, anger but also fulfilment and happiness. We can use the space to address problems and conflicts that arise in relationships by exploring and unravelling how they make you feel, think and behave.

Young people and Adolescent Counselling

Young people and Adolescent counselling is specifically adapted depending on the age, and takes into consideration different laws and ethics that surround this age bracket.  I have vast experience of working with children from 7 - 18 years of age,.

Being a child and adolescent means being in one of the most influential parts of your life with pressures from school, friends, parents/carers,  whilst going through changes in your body and who you are. Together we can work through uncertain, anxious and confusing times in a safe and respectful manner.

Anger, Guilt and Resentment

Feelings of anger, guilt and resentment can often be hard to navigate for individuals and their relationships. The counselling space can be used to express these feelings in a safe manner and we can use various methods to help look out for triggers, examine thought patterns and build self-compassion. This can help to foster self-awareness and provide different perspectives on challenging situations.
